Samantha Sansregret, MNGV Elder, will be at UVic as a cultural and student support Elder-in-Residence every second Friday, beginning September 18th, 2009.

Duties include

  • Support for faculty, staff and administration for cultural events hosted by UVic on and off campus.  Support for internal awareness and knowledge of cultural protocol for UVic events and in classes and ceremonies through the provision of guest talks and presentations.
  • Assist and guide students seeking one-on-one and/or small group cultural, academic and personal support while attending UVic.
  • Depending on the specific nature of the student in need, the Elder-in-Residence may also refer the student to other Elders, Community Members, or institutional faculty, staff, or administration who have specific areas of knowledge or specialization.

  • Large scale events combining cultural and educational opportunities while enhancing youth participation in community
  • Past Events:  Sweat Lodge Ceremony, Veterans Honouring, Traditional Craft Night,  Artists Roundabout, Métis Feast, Traditional Healing Activities
