A beautiful gift from an MNGV community member

‘West Coast Infinity’ was created Métis artist Kristi Bridgeman for the Métis Nation of Greater Victoria. It is inspired by the beadwork designs of our Métis ancestors, the Flower Beadwork People.

The design is created on a lemniscate (infinity symbol and Métis Nation icon) using symbols that focus on the plants of Vancouver Island and medicinal plants known to the Métis community including:

  • flowers and leaves of the tobacco plant

  • wild rose

  • forget -me-not

  • nootka rose

  • braids of sweet grass

  • purple camas

  • alpine strawberry

  • western red cedar

  • rose buds, opened rose flower, and rose hips

  • thimble berry;

  • wild blueberry

  • salmonberry flowers and fruit

Note the traditional Métis white mouse tracks along the stem, and the blue interior background representing the ocean and the spirit of the Coastal Métis community.
